ALICJA MILESI
Female Polish-Italian transmedia artist and researcher based in Basel, Switzerland. Born 1991 in Łódź, Poland.
Graduate of the Set and Costume Design program at the Academy of Fine Arts in Łódź. Studied at the Faculty of Fine Arts, University of Lisbon (Erasmus, 2014), and participated in the MA program in Design, Spaces & Communication at HEAD – Genève (2016–2018). Artist-in-residence at UNAM and INBAL in Mexico City (2014–2015), and at INSTINC Space in Singapore (2024).
My artistic practice focuses on the critical examination of digital infrastructures and algorithmic systems as both tools and subjects of perception. Creating at the crossroads of traditional arts, psychology and technology, I work with video, installation, and spatial media to explore how interfaces shape attention, behavior, and notions of value - particularly within platforms governed by data-driven logic and personalization. Drawing from visual communication, cultural archetypes, and symbolic systems, I investigate the aesthetic and political codes embedded in commercial technologies. I approach digital tools not only as means of production, but also as natural material to be deconstructed - dissecting UI logic, pattern recognition, and the language of control that governs algorithmic space.
My work often recontextualizes design methodologies within an artistic research framework. This allows me to intervene in the language of tech, challenging the neutrality of optimization and surfacing the emotional and ethical consequences of digital standardization. At its core, my practice is situated at the intersection of spirituality, technology, and critical inquiry. It reflects on the architectures of perception embedded in our devices and networks, and invites viewers to reconsider their agency within increasingly automated information patterns.
I collaborated with the Polish National Film School assisting Oscar-winning production designer Ewa Braun, as well as with The Great Theatre and New Theatre in Łódź (Poland) and the Centro Cultural del Bosque in Mexico City, gaining hands-on experience in set and stage design. I’ve led several immersive digital-in-space installations, partnering with agencies such as Accenture Song, Leo Burnett and AlhaQ Digital developing algorithms and orchestrating omnichannel experiences.
